About Us

Welcome to our site.  We are Paul & Karen Depperschmidt.  In 2018 we decided that in retirement we would downsize, purge, get a Motor Coach and see North America.  In itself that is not unique.  So we complicated things a bit by including Paul's passion, aviation.  We will be pulling a custom trailer that includes our Kitfox Series 7 airplane.  Follow us as we travel the country and report on what we find.

Both hailing from Texas we met at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX where we both graduated in 1979.  Karen is a Chi Omega and Paul a Theta Chi.  We were married shortly after graduating and have been together ever since.

Karen's adventures with Paul started immediately as we packed up to move to Paintsville, KY.  Paul was working with his father in the family oil and gas business.  Shortly later the business moved us to Knoxville, TN then back to Texas living in Lockhart.  During that time Karen worked for the Chamber of Commerce and Paul started to work part time with video production, creating local cable shows for Lockhart and Luling.

There came a point in the late 80's where the Oil & Gas business was not sustainable.  Paul started his career in the Audio Visual market working at Pro Line Video in Austin in sales.  A few years later Paul accepted a position with Panasonic as southern Texas region sales manager.  During that time we moved to Kingwood, TX.  While Karen was working for ClubCorp, we were connected with people who would change our lives.  We were connected to a family in California and arranged to adopt our amazing daughter, Amanda, who just graduated with a Masters degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.  She is now working at the largest book store in the world, Powell's, in downtown Portland, OR.  We are very proud of her.  That process could use a blog post of its own.

After many moves through Panasonic promotions (Dallas, Mission Viejo, CA) Paul decided to accept an offer to work with Technical Industries in Atlanta as VP of Sales.  A few years later Paul joined a start-up in Atlanta called ASPI Digital.  That gamble paid off when ASPI was purchased by Polycom.  That purchase helped us buy this.....>>>>>>>>>>>

Our 65ft. Destination Yachts Houseboat.  WE HAD A BLAST!  And used it almost every weekend for 6 years.  That is likely why we felt that the RV plan would work.

After Polycom Paul moved to Tandberg and shortly after arriving it was sold to Cisco Systems where Paul worked until retirement in 2018.

We may be crazy, but we are leaping in with both feet.  Time will tell if our choice was the right one.  We will keep everyone posted as much as our internet connections will allow.
